What are Candida Albicans?

What is a Vaginal Yeast Infection | Symptoms and Treatments of Vaginal Yeast Infection in Women

Candida albicans (C. albicans) as shown in the image above, are  fungi that live in and on your body without causing any problems under normal circumstances.

The problem arises, however, when they grow out of control.

C.albicans, the most common of the Candida fungi, is the cause of vaginal yeast infection and other candida yeast infections.

The less common types of the Candida fungi are C.dubliniensis, C. parapsilosis and C auris and are more commonly found in people with severe systemic infections and who are immunocompromised.

When the candida albicans overgrow out of control on the pubic area and in the vagina the infection is called vaginal yeast infection, vaginal candidiasis and vulvovaginal candidiasis.

Other Symptoms & Types of Yeast Infections

When the yeast infection occurs in other specific parts of the body its name refers to that part of the body.

  • In the mouth: thrush or oropharyngeal candidiasis

  • On the genitals: vaginal candidiasis or vaginal yeast infection for females

  • In the blood or organs: invasive candidiasis

  • 0n the skin: cutaneous candidiasis

  • In the diaper region: yeast diaper rash

  • In the fingernails/toenails: candida paronychia

Yeast infections Treatment

Infections caused by C. albicans are quite common and are easily diagnosed and treated with antifungal medications.

Here are a few examples

However, some of these candida yeast infections, if not treated properly and in a timely manner, can cause serious health problems.

Unfortunately, it is not unusual for a yeast infection symptom to reoccur after taking these anti-fungal medicines and cause frustration to the victims.

Linda Allen’s Natural Cure

It is not surprising that many women are now seeking out natural ways to cure yeast infections.

The one cure, proven and tested and evaluated, is detailed in the bestseller eBook by Linda Allen, a holistic expert and highly qualified nutritionist.

She suffered from vaginal yeast infection symptoms for many years and she was determined to discover a natural and permanent cure.

She was finally successful after seven years of research and other means of investigation in finding the vaginal yeast infection cure and treatment which she outlined and detailed in her bestselling eBook.

Who are the victims of a Vaginal Yeast Infection Symptoms

Women. It commonly occurs after puberty and before menopause

How common are vaginal yeast infections

This vaginal yeast infection symptoms is quite common and over one million women are affected by it in the United States annually. It is the second most common infection of the vagina, after bacterial vaginosis and should not be mistaken for it.

Both infections, bacterial vaginosis and vaginal yeast infection  are different types of vaginitis

It is also stated that at least 70% of women will get vaginal yeast infection at least once in their lifetime and 20% more than once.

What Does Vaginal Candidiasis Look Like

.

Swollen, inflamed and itchy on the vulva and odorless discharge from the vagina.

Who are more at risk of getting vaginal yeast infection symptoms

Those women at elevated risk are:

In addition, consider the following:

• Yeast infection and immunodeficiency in women

A healthy immune system keeps all the microorganisms in your gut and the rest of your body under control and in balance.

Women whose immune system is compromised by taking corticosteroid medication, treatments for cancer, HIV infection and other infections are at greater risk for getting vaginal yeast infections including vaginal candidiasis.

These medications and diseases weaken their immune system. In that weakened state it cannot fight the diseases or the effects of the medication.

• Vaginal Yeast Infection from Diabetes

Women with uncontrolled  diabetes are at a high risk of getting yeast infections including vaginal yeast infection.

Under normal conditions in a healthy person, the mix of microorganism in the acidic environment in the vagina keep the candida albicans in check, preventing them from overgrowing.

However, when women and girls have diabetes, the secretions in the vagina contain more glucose than normal, because of the higher amounts of glucose in their blood.

Candida albicans love sugar and are therefore fed by the increased amounts of glucose in the blood.

As a result, they begin to multiply out of control causing vaginal yeast infection.

• Vaginal Flora and Vaginal Yeast Infection Treatment

The flora in a healthy vagina is made up of diverse types of bacteria, lactobacilli (good bacteria) being dominant. They play a key role in defending against infections including vaginal yeast infection.

• Vaginal acidity and Vaginal Yeast Infection

In its healthy state, the vagina has an acidity of roughly pH 4.

The lactobacilli produce hydrogen peroxide, lactic acid and other substances and together they keep the pH of the vagina slightly acid between 3.8 to 4.5.

This slightly acidic environment prevents the cause of vaginal yeast infection.

Use of antibiotics, contraceptives, pregnancy, diabetes, hormonal therapy, or an impaired immune system caused by some diseases changes the acidity of the vagina and contribute to the cause of  vaginal yeast infection.

When this change occurs, the candida albicans fungi can multiply out of control and cause candida (candida albicans) overgrowth.

This candida overgrowth is responsible for the annoying, uncomfortable and sometimes embarrassing candida symptoms that you experience. If the overgrowth is unchecked vaginal yeast infection results.

• Cancer and yeast infection

Your white blood cells normally keep the candida albicans in a woman’s digestive trac (gut), and vagina from overgrowing.

Chemotherapy and radiation treatments reduce the white blood cells in those areas and therefore allow candida overgrowth and yeast infection in the vagina.

Also, some treatments for cancer use high doses of antibiotics which as mentioned before kill the good bacteria in the vagina causing an imbalance in the microorganisms and vaginal yeast infection.

As a result of this, vaginal yeast infection is often considered a side effect of cancer treatment.

Cause of Vaginal Yeast Infection

The overgrowth of Candida albicans, a fungus, is the cause of  vaginal yeast infection and is responsible for the symptoms of the vaginal yeast infection that demand treatment of the infection.

What Are The Symptoms of A Vaginal Yeast Infection

The symptoms of a vaginal yeast infection are:

  • severe itching and irritation of the vulva,
  • a creamy, cottage-cheese-like discharge from the vagina,
  • discomfort and vaginal pain when urinating
  • and pain during sexual intercourse.

A severe outbreak can also include swelling, redness, and cracks in the walls of the vagina.

Victims of volvovaginitis (vaginal yeast infection) have experienced that it can be very unbearable at times.

Recurring Vaginal Yeast infection

If you have diabetes and you experience recurring vaginal yeast infection more than three yeast infections in a year, it is time to check to see if your diabetes is managed properly.

Vaginal yeast infection (Vulvovaginal candidiasis) is considered recurrent when at least four specific episodes occur in one year or at least three episodes unrelated to antibiotic therapy occur within one year.

Although greater than 50 percent of women more than 25 years of age develop vulvovaginal candidiasis at some time, fewer than 5 percent of these women experience recurrences.

How to Prevent Vaginal Yeast Infection With Natural Treatment

.Here are some tips:

  • Candida yeast loves sugar, so limit your use of sugar and processed foods.
  • Wear loose-fitting clothes and underwear with cotton in the crotch area instead of synthetic ones.

The cotton keeps the vagina cool and dryer. Underwear with synthetic material at the crotch keeps the vagina area warm and sweaty . This breeds yeast infection.

  • Do not spend long time periods in wet clothes. Swimsuits and sweaty exercise clothes. Candida overgrowth loves wet and warm areas on your body.
  • Do not overuse antibiotics. They kill the beneficial bacteria and cause yeast infection as explained above.
  • Do not douche unless recommended by your doctor.
  • Douching the vagina washes out the vagina, thereby upsetting the checks and balances present to keep the environment slightly acidic. Yeast infection results.
  • Do not use scented vaginal deodorant spray, scented soaps and vaginal lotions. They too upset the balance of the microorganisms in the vagina and cause yeast infection.
  • Change tampons, menstrual pads, and panty liners often
  • Avoid as much as possible very hot showers and baths.

Questions asked

Can you get yeast infections through sex?

Though a yeast infection is not considered a sexually transmitted disease, You may get if from your pardner who has  a penile yeast infection or oral thrush.

You can reduce the risk by using a dental dam during oral sex or condoms during sex.

Can poor hygiene cause a yeast infection?

Not really but poor genital hygiene and frequent sexual intercourse can increase the risk of having the fungus passed from one pardner to the other.

Can a Man Give a Woman a Yeast Infection

If your penis is uncircumcised, it can be a risk. The environment under the foreskin is moist and warm. This promotes the growth of c. albicans which can lead to a yeast infection.

Being a higher weight person and poor genital hygiene aggravates the risk.

Diagnosis of vaginal yeast infection & treatments

To diagnose a yeast infection, your doctor may:

  •  Ask questions about your medical history. This might include gathering information about past vaginal infections or sexually transmitted infections.
  •  Perform a pelvic exam. Your doctor examines your external genitals for signs of infection. Next, your doctor places an instrument (speculum) into your vagina to hold the vaginal walls open to examine the vagina and cervix.
  •  Test a sample of vaginal secretions. Your doctor may send a sample of vaginal fluid for testing to determine the type of fungus causing the yeast infection.

Your doctor may be able to prescribe more effective treatment for recurrent vaginal yeast infections by identifying the type of fungus causing the infections.

How Do I Treat A vaginal yeast infection?

Can I use over the counter (otc) Medication for a vaginal yeast infection? Yes.

Sometimes these antifungal medication only produce tempory cure and recurrence of the vaginal infection happens.

She guarantee that she will get rid of the symptoms of vaginal yeast infection in as little as two (2) hours and the yeast infection in two (2) months.

Over-the-counter antifungal vaginal suppositories and creams are effective for many women, and these are a safe choice during pregnancy. Treatment usually lasts from three to seven days.

Make a follow-up appointment with your doctor if symptoms do not resolve after treatment, or if they return within two months of treatment.

Yeast infection treatment depends on whether you have an uncomplicated or a complicated infection.

Mild vaginal yeast infection

For mild to moderate symptoms and infrequent episodes of vaginal yeast infections, your doctor might recommend:

• Short-course vaginal therapy.

Antifungal medications are available as creams, ointments, tablets and suppositories. An antifungal regimen that lasts one, three or seven days will usually clear a yeast infection.

A few medications have been shown to be effective, including butoconazole (Gynazole-1), clotrimazole (Gyne-Lotrimin), miconazole (Monistat 3), and terconazole (Terazol 3).

Some of these are available by prescription only, while others are available over the counter. Side effects might include slight burning or irritation during application.

You may need to use an alternative form of birth control. Because the suppositories and creams are oil-based, they could potentially weaken latex condoms and diaphragms.

Single-dose oral medication.

Your doctor might prescribe a one-time, single oral dose of the antifungal medication
fluconazole (Diflucan). Or you may take two single doses three days apart to manage severe symptoms.

Complicated yeast infection

Treatment for a complicated yeast infection might include:

  •  Long-course vaginal therapy. A treatment regimen of azole medications for seven to 14 days can successfully clear a yeast infection. Medication is usually vaginal cream, ointment, tablet or suppository.

Multidose oral medication for vaginal yeast infection treatment.

Your doctor might prescribe two or three doses of fluconazole to take by mouth instead of vaginal therapy. However, this therapy is NOT recommended for pregnant women

Maintenance plan for Recurrent Vaginal Yeast Infection

For recurrent yeast infections, your doctor might recommend a medication routine to prevent yeast overgrowth and future infections.

Maintenance therapy starts after a yeast infection is cleared with treatment. You may need a longer treatment of up to 14 days to clear the yeast infection before beginning maintenance therapy.

Therapies may include a regimen of oral fluconazole tablets once a week for six months. Some doctors prescribe clotrimazole as a vaginal suppository used once a week instead of oral medication.

Your sex partner might not need to be treated for a yeast infection. If you have recurrent yeast infections, your doctor might recommend treating your partner if your partner has symptoms of a genital yeast infection(balanitis) or using condoms during intercourse.

Home remedies for Vaginal yeast infection

Some women prefer to use natural convenient remedies to treat their vaginal yeast infection.

For details click on www.alexsaund.com.

Do not use any of these treatments internally unless you first check with your healthcare provider.

1. Apple cider vinegar

Apple cider vinegar (ACV) has been found to inhibit the growth of Candida albicans.

Put one spoonful of ACV in a glass of water and drink daily. Do not apply it to the vagina as it can burn and cause irritation to the skin.

2. Boric acid

Boric acid has antifungal and antiseptic properties and some women use it as suppositories for hard-to-treat recurrent yeast infections when other treatments are ineffective.

3. Coconut oil

Coconut oil, made from the flesh of coconuts, has antifungal properties.

Scientifica study proves the antifungal activity of chlorhexidine, coconut oil, and probiotics. The antifungal activity of coconut oil is found to be higher than that of probiotics against C. albicans.

However, check with your doctor before applying coconut oil to the vaginal area.

4 Probiotics

Probiotics contain live bacteria, such as the bacteria Lactobacillus acidophilus which stabilize the microorganism in the vagina keeping a healthy balance between them. You must buy probiotic supplements from a reputable dealer.

Probiotics — Lactobacillus acidophilus (1 – 10 billion live organisms per day) orbifidobacterium (10 billion colony-forming units per day) help restore normal balance of bacteria in the bowel and mucous membranes preventing the overgrowth of the candida fungi.

Oral probiotics may take up to about 10 days to show results.

Some women use vaginal suppository probiotics for quicker results. Research is still ongoing to determine the efficacy of probiotics on curing yeast infections.

Some doctors recommend taking probiotics when antibiotics are prescribed. They are aware that a yeast infections are a possible side effect of antibiotics

5. Vitamin C

Vitamin C strengthens the body’s immunity to diseases. The body is therefore more able to fight off yeast infections.

You can improve your body’s intake of Vitamin C by consuming vitamin C-rich fruits and vegetables like oranges and broccoli.

6. Yogurt

Studies found that probiotic yogurt is healthy bacteria and assists in enhancing the immune system that becomes compromised by the candida overgrowth and the ensuing yeast infection.

After you have successfully cleansed your bowels and kidneys of the candida overgrowth, you must flood your body with friendly bacteria, to keep and maintain a balance of the various bacteria in your intestine.

Good yogurt fits the bill.

I choose to talk about yogurt because most of us are familiar with this probiotic and believe that all yogurt is equal. This is far from the truth.

Here are a few tips:

• For centuries people all over the world ate yogurt.

What’s In Quality Yogurt

You make yogurt when you combine cow’s (or dairy-free soy milk) with live, active bacteria and left to ferment.

These days, several yogurt companies are now putting additional probiotics and cultures into their yogurts and making claims regarding immunity and digestive health and some research shows that their claim may be true.

• Good yogurt is chock full of nutrients and regulates your digestive system and boost your immune system

• Not all yogurts are healthy. Many commercial yogurts are full of fat and sugar, colorings, flavoring, and fillers.

• The National Yogurt Association (NYA) developed a “Live and Active Cultures” seal to identify yogurt that contains 100 million cultures per gram at the time of manufacturing.

• Yogurt companies must pay several thousand dollars each year to use this seal on their products.

If you do not choose the right yogurt or other probiotics, you will make the same mistake that countless other candida sufferers make, and the infection will return.
